When I think of travel stories, I have to reflect upon Cynthia Voight's Homecoming. What a journey those kids take! The fact that they make it on their own as they travel down the states appeals to readers -- at least to me, ala Pippi Longstocking, Box Car Children, etc -- and then there is such growth in character and understandings.
Years ago, upon reading that book, I began a life-long love affair with Voight's books and sought out previous titles and watched for new ones. She never disappointed me. Her writing is beautiful and layered with meaning.
