*July 5 - July 16 On the Road: Books about Traveling. **From summer vacations to holiday journeys, trips that cross the ocean to trips that cross that state or town line, children, teens, and their families are on the road and on the move in many books for children and young adults. We?ll spend the second half of June talking about traveling stories and the world?s they can open up in the minds of young readers.
July 17 - July 31: Survival Stories: Whether they are traversing a literal wilderness, navigating the sometimes treacherous landscape of
?civilized? society, treading dysfunctional family waters, or simply trying to walk through the paths of adolescence with their self-esteem in tact, many characters in books for children and teens learn how to survive circumstances that are far beyond their control. In the second half of July, we?ll talk about the many kinds of survivors found in books for youth.
