The Rabbit Hill Festival of Literature will be held this year in Westport, Connecticut on October 25-27, 2007. In its seventh year, this festival (which formerly took place in the spring) honors the heritage of Robert Lawson, who lived and worked in Westport for many years. Winner of both the Caldecott and Newbery Medals, Lawson had a major influence on many of today's authors and illustrators.
This year's festival theme is: "Imagined Worlds." Leonard Marcus will deliver an opening lecture on the literature of fantasy on Thursday evening, Oct. 25 at 7:30 PM. Writers Jeanne DuPrau, Gail Carson Levine, Rick Riordan, Neal Shusterman, and Andrea Davis Pinkney will visit area schools on Friday, Oct. 26 and have dinner with festival attendees that evening. A tour of the Weston Woods Studios (with Carnegie-award-winning producers Paul Gagne and Melissa Reilly) will be available during the day on Friday.
On Saturday, Oct. 27, an all-day symposium will feature morning lectures and afternoon group discussions with each of the authors on the many ways of creating fantasy literature for young people, concluding with book sales and autographing.
Westport is located in southwest Connecticut, about one hour northeast of New York City. Registration will begin in late August: http://www.westportlibrary.org/events/rabbithill.html
