NEWS FLASH from the United States Board on Books for Young People

 

USBBY's 7th Regional IBBY conference will be held in Tucson, AZ, at the Westward Look Resort, November 2-4, 2007. Registration forms and further information are available at www.usbby.org

Speakers include the following:

* Yuyi Morales (Just a Minute)

* Nancy Farmer (House of the Scorpion)

* Ibtisam Barakat (Tasting the Sky)

* Tayo Shima (Japanese children's book editor and former IBBY president)

* Meshack Asare (Dorothy Briley lecturer, Brassman's Secret)

* David Almond (Kit's Wilderness)

* Panel of Native Navaho writers, including Monty Roessel and Shonto Begay

 

Conference theme is "Children between Worlds" and a reading list of six books for group discussion of the topic is available on the USBBY website.

 

Opening reception includes more than a dozen Tucson vicinity authors and illustrators.

 

Discussion groups on literary themes and organizational issues include topics on immigration, Haitian children's literature, young adult coming-of-age literature, process of selection of the USBBY Outstanding International Books and many more.

 

USBBY IBBY Regional conferences are known for their focus on building international understanding through youth literature and for their opportunities for sharing points of view among all participants.
