My novel, GENTLE'S HOLLER, (Viking Children's Books2005/Penguin Puffin2007) is about a girl, Livy Two Weems, in the Smoky Mountains who is a songwriter. She writes songs of her everyday life in the early 1960s from "Mama's Biscuits" to "Floating Checks" to "Grandma's Glass Eye" to "Daddy's Roasted Peanuts. Her story continues in LOUISIANA'S SONG (Viking 2007) and JESSIE'S MOUNTAIN (Viking 2008).
