THE COLOR OF MY WORDS by Lynn Joseph is a beautiful book about 12 year Rosa in the Dominican Republic who wants to write but does not have enough paper. She is tempted to take her older brother's pad of paper which he needs for his job as a waiter. The small village is threatened by developers who want the land for a resort. Rosa learns that her words have power to change her life. The book was marketed to ages 8-12, but I found that readers of all ages appreciated poet Joseph's lovely writing.
