I'm captivated at the moment by listening to the audio of Water Street, by Patricia Reilly Giff - about young Irish Americans in Brooklyn in the 1870s. The passages about Thomas and what writing means to him are lovely. She makes some of the most poignant statements about the joy, the need, the necessity of writing that I remember hearing (or reading) before.
