1. I sincerely hope that quality of writing and quality of reader experience are, if not identical, at least related -- otherwise I've wasted a lot of effort as both a writer and a teacher! (:

2. Do we really believe that one ought not express disappointment in an award winner without suggesting an alternative? Though I haven't read loads of 2006 books yet, I didn't think Copper Sun was very good, and I would feel awfully pessimistic if I withheld my criticism of it on the grounds that there might not have been anything better published!
