One reason I really appreciate To Dance is because it is realistic. Often dancers don't work professionally their whole lives and need to change their careers at some point. This book is an example of one dancer who managed this change successfully. She doesn't continue as a professional ballerina but she does continue to dance. And she is happy. In fact, a sense of personal happiness pervades the whole book in spite of divorce, death and injury.

I also like how the end papers are part of the story; the opening papers show Siena as a little girl and the closing papers show her on the beach with her husband and child (if I remember correctly).
