YES! Let's hear it for Read Across America! And this year's theme, Get Jazzed About Books!
Parent volunteers and Principal Elvia Teixeira of underfunded Washington Elementary in San Leandro improvised a great celebration
-- inviting me to read my picture book, This Jazz Man (I had boys and girls accompany me on toy musical instruments). And afterwards, the San Leandro High School Jazz Band gave a live performance!
Like Olgy's school in CO, the Washington Elementary kids also sported crayoned paper top hats. During Q & A, a kindergartener asked me,
"Where's Dr. Seuss?" Ted was definitely there with us in spirit! karen
