[CCBC-Net] Short Sammy Himself

The discussion has been lively to say the least, and I am frustrated with my inability to get my hands on the book. Okay, that's a lie. I DID have my hands on it. I DID read the first chapter. Then the kids got restless...so on and so forth...and I left the bookstore without purchasing it. Ugh. Now I wait.

That being said, I have a related question that I haven't seen addressed yet. Ms. Patron has been praised for her use of the anatomically correct word, but is Short Sammy the kind of character who would actually use the anatomically correct word?

I've seen descriptions of the book include a "hard, dusty life" in a
"plain-spoken town." I've read that this is a "character-driven novel," but does this fit the formally hard-drinking character? Maybe I am wrong, but Short Sammy seems like the kind of person who would use any of a number of unsavory euphemisms instead of the anatomically correct word.

Is there something later in the novel that would change my impression of Short Sammy? Overall, does this matter? I love "real" characters, and one little thing like this can throw me. Thanks.
