[CCBC-Net] the response of a parent to The Higher Power of Lucky

As School Librarian I couldn't wait to share The Higher Power of Lucky with my 4th graders and as I mentioned earlier in this discussion, I defined scrotum, the giggled and we moved on. My parent/son book club will be sharing their thoughts at our meeting later this month but this was one parents' email to me immediately after reading the NY Times article.

"Meredith and Aaron thought it was amusing that the author used the term
'scrotum' to describe the dog's injury. Discussing this word certainly came in handy for

Meredith today when she spent the day shadowing a neonatologist at
....Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit... a nurse was having Meredith change a preemie's diaper, and told Meredith to be particularly careful cleaning "around the scrotum." Meredith said she was glad we were reading the book, so that she knew what the nurse was talking about... Cheers"
