Hattie Big Sky, as far as I can tell, was just reviewed in Booklist and Kirkus in Sept. and we were able to order in Jan; we haven't received any copies yet. It was ordered Children's. Penny From Heaven was ordered and received last June, but only by two branches. I'd have to look but I assume the reviews either weren't available at that time or just didn't sound that interesting. We didn't order Rules until the announcements were made. We order from an in-house prepared list, and that title didn't make the list - or it did and no one ordered it.
We used to have a process of reading and reviewing in our local Library systems; staffing and budget limitations haven't allowed that in over a decade. In my opinion we were much better able to judge with that system.

Did I miss something, or was there very little commentary about the three Newbery Honor Books: HATTIE BIG SKY, PENNY FROM HEAVEN and RULES. Were they also dark horses, or barely promoted, or just plain hard to get hold of?
Warmly on another snowy day, Ginny
At our library, at least, HATTIE BIG SKY was purchased just as YA - and I still feel it's a better YA than J title.
