[CCBC-Net] Flotsam, etc.

I have to jump in on the Flotsam discussion. While I love Wiesner's art, I don't think this particular title was much different than his others which keeps it from being distinguished. It doesn't matter that he has won the Caldecott before since the committee is not to be influenced by that. On the other hand, I agree that Kadir Nelson's illustrations in Moses could have been the winner this year. His illustrations tell the story alone without any text. The lighting makes the reader feel as if they are in the dark with Harriet. Then the bursts of light give hope. The angles of the illustrations lead the eye to continue on, mimicking Harriet's journey forward. The expressions on Harriet's face show the strain she had to endure. Obviously the committee agreed that Moses was a special book since they awarded it an honor book. I just wish it would have won the medal.
