I, too, loved Flotsam from the first time I saw it, and was thrilled when it won the Caldecott. It has been great fun this week "reading" it with first and second graders. Each time we go through it we see something that we missed before. Our favorite details have been the eyes--in all their variations--but the pig, fish, octopus, and aliens are great, too.
One other point that we noted: the various magnifications of the previous camera owners perhaps corresponds to how long ago the pictures were taken.
The kids (and I) are greatly intrigued.
