I think I'm echoing a few other people, but three of my favorites this year have been--
Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich--Adam Rex--for pure playfulness and fun. Plus it has monsters in it, of course.
Not a Box--Antoinette Portis--for a beautiful simplicity.
Ptolemy's Gate-Jonathon Stroud--A brilliant ending to one of the best fantasy series I've read in ages.
