I've just finished "The Braid" by Helen Frost. It's about immigrants from Scotland to Canada around 1850 when things were very bad in Scotland. The braid's special feature is that there are narrative poems interspersed with shorter poems and the last line of one poem is the first line of the poem after the next poem and vice versa--it's intricate but you don't notice it while reading it. It's a short, lyrical read, both sad and hopeful. It's an unusual book which stays in my memory.
