I have received so few messages in the past week that I decided to post one to verify that I'm still on the list! This is my favorite time of year because I love to hear everyone's opinions- so I hope to see more activity soon.
I enjoyed A Drowned Maiden's Hair by Laura Amy Schlitz, a suspenseful gothic melodrama that is perfectly appropriate for middle grade readers. Another favorite was Dog Sense, Sneed Collard's first novel. I'm a sucker for border collies anyway, but also liked the portrayal of how the relationship with his dog helped a boy adjust to his new environment.
A couple of favorite picture books were David Shannon's Good Boy, Fergus! and The Wishing Ball, by Elisa Kleven.
I have also been delighted with the Babymouse series by Jennifer and Matt Holm, although I think these started in late 2005. And I second everyone's praise for Clementine and Owen and Mzee!
