I've listened to many of the favourites listed so far, and they translate as well as Audio Books. Here's my Favourite Audios of 2006---
Half-Moon Investigations - Read with a lilting brogue and humour that is spot-on!
Alphabet of Dreams - A lovely rendition of the story, narrator keeps perfect pace for the rhythms of the story
The Book Thief - Haunting and so well read, the narrator puts the listener right into the book's world and keeps you there throughout
Gossamer - The beauty of Lowry's language really shines as it is read aloud
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas -includes a very interesting interview with the author which addresses some of the concerns expressed by CCBCers
The End - Lemony Snicket -- Tim Curry is the perfect choice to read this book!
A Brief Chapter in My Impossible Life (Reinhardt) - the youthful narration fits the story so well that you feel you are truly listening to Simone tell her story
I, Coriander (Gardner) - The book came out in 2005, but the audio is from this year and is one of my favourites. The strange and serious world is expertly brought to life as you listen to this tale.
happy listening....
