I have to say my favorite poetry book for '06 is Jack Prelutsky's Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant. The way that Prelutsky combines an animal with an everyday object is unbelievable. The illustrations make the creature look like some crazy mix out of Frankenstien's lab! My students really responded to this and wanted to come up with some of their own crazy creatures! I plan to use it again during science when we study animals and habitats.
