This year's crop offers a long list of favorites but I'm singling out just one which is truly outstanding. It has been mentioned before, but ESCAPE! THE STORY OF THE GREAT HOUDINI by Sid Fleischman is pure magic. What sets this biography apart from others is the author's personal involvement with his subject; his seamless writing is a mesmerizing configuration of both lives.
