Hi Lindsay, I don't know what role you play in this class but perhaps if you start reading the book[s] you'd like to suggest to this student he/she might be inclined to have a look. So might some of the other students. I have found if the books are in your classroom and being used [on display, read orally or at quiet reading time] the stigma of it being a kiddie book is lessened or even erased.
