My experience with Joey Pigza was delightful and I am so thankful that Jack wrote those books! My ADD and learning disabled child WAS a burden on the entire family and also a JOY! The biggest help from the books was being able to laugh at the crazy antics described and then *sigh* and think, at least he never cut anyone's nose with the scissors!! It was a great stress reliever for me!! Several teachers I worked with read the series and had similar reactions while thinking of children in their former classes. None of us took it as the gospel -- more an exaggeration or an expression of what it felt like to the Nth degree!!
