I remember reading a book ages ago, but forget the title and author (she is a well known author of J fic), where one of the main characters was in a wheel chair and his older brother was quite athletic. Early in the course of the story, a fire breaks out in the apartment building and both brothers are killed. They wake up to find themselves in a fantasy world where the younger brother is now "healthy and whole".
At the end of the book, the older brother suffers an accident and urges his brother to join him in jumping off a cliff, so they could wake up in yet another world where both will be once again 'whole and healthy'.
I remember thinking how disgusting, that the moral is "it's better to commit suicide than to be in a wheelchair!". I'd never recommend a book like this to any reader.
If I ever remember the title, I'll post it.
