I'm just finishing writing a YA thriller, called Shadows Walking Backward. It's about a blind girl who is kidnapped. My goal is to avoid stereotypes or mistakes while producing a really good read. To do that, I've talked at length to a high school girl who is blind; corresponded with Ryan Knighton, who wrote Cockeyed, a memoir about going blind; visited a guide dog school; and read as much as I could about blindness and talked to many blind people.

When the book is finished, I'll ask many of these sources for their opinions. I don't normally do this with non-writers, but I don't want to put something out that they feel is false.

One children's book I found especially helpful was Do You Remember the Color Blue: The Questions Children Ask About Blindness by Sally Hobart Alexander.
