The 2006 OKI Children's Literature Conference, Once Upon a Time.Around the World, will provide participants the opportunity to explore and celebrate numerous folk stories and customs of cultures representing all parts of the globe. Helping participants to fully appreciate folk literature from around the world will be nationally recognized children's author, storyteller, world traveler, and folklorist Eric Kimmel. Will Hillenbrand, Cincinnati-based children's illustrator and author, will also be featured during the conference.
A variety of conventional workshops will be offered based on the conference theme. In addition, various NKU student groups will provide an international ambiance to the conference by establishing an International Market Place where conference participants can shop. NKU students will also provide musical and dramatic performances of various folk tales and customs throughout the day.
The conference will be held on November 4, 2006, at Northern Kentucky University and is open to all adult children's literature enthusiasts, especially teachers, future teachers, librarians, parents, editors, authors, illustrators, and anyone else that serves as an educator to children or young adults. Our goal is to provide these educators with the opportunity to experience the folk literature of the world so they in turn can enrich and expand the global lives of their students.
To register for the conference, which includes a continental breakfast and box lunch, visit http://www.swonlibraries.org/oki. The registration deadline is Wednesday, October 25.
