I'm enjoying this discussion-- I've often given picture books as gifts to adults, and I recommend them many times for use in nursing homes, and in high school classrooms. Two of my favourites are /Louis the Fish/ by Arthur Yorinks and /Rocks in His Head/ by Carol Otis Hurst-- both deal with doing your own thing and following your dreams. I too keep these books around the house, and many times when adult guests ask if I have something to read, I give them a stack of picture books!
