The increased demand for nonfiction reading for the lower grades in school has helped push these publishing efforts as well, but the red, white, and blue is very evident!

  I am NOT proud of this fact.
  But...in 1994...long before the tragic event...I did the anthology HAND IN HAND: AN AMERICAN HISTORY THROUGH POETRY (Simon & Schuster). The volume sold well enough to keep it in print for many years. AFTER 9/11, sales began to pick up dramatically. I couldn't understand it until I read on the internet that anything depicting the twin towers became
'collectible." I still did not connect! A friend called to tell me the towers appear on the BACK JACKET, ironically showing two young children waving to the towers.
  I got chills. Neither I nor the illustrator, Peter Fiore, would never have imagined.
