I have been listening to Elizabeth Enright's Four Story Mistake and am wondering if it could be published in today's world. Her books are 3rd person, with occasional vps from each child, but more usually an omniscient vp. The descriptions of nature are really lovely but not
"childlike" I wouldn't think.
Also after listening to Then There Were Five, I wonder even more. In it there's a mistreated orphan; he and Rush overhear the bad guys at a still drinking illegal liquor; they're shot at in their retreat; later the main bad guy drinks himself into a stupor and dies in a house fire
(a good thing for the orphan.)
