I'm behind on reading posts, so forgive if these have been mentioned, but for reluctant high schoolers how about
Crackback by John Coy I think you have to love football to like this book. (I don't) But I know some 9th graders who really liked it and it's a pretty quick read.
And how about graphic novels like: Once in a Blue Moon (Volume 1) by Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir Illustrated by Jennifer Quick
(most appealing to girls) This made the CCBC book o' the week and it's a very good read.
