Hi I agree a lot with what Brooke posted. In high school, I never had time to read between homework, a part-time job and after-school activities there was not any time left. I think in HS there should be more choices for kids. It is great if you love the classics and are a strong reader; however, not all kids are strong readers and not into the classics. There should be other choices for the potential non-English majors out there. HS English classes that focus on other good contemporary fiction and non-fiction too.
Secondly, YA the term and definition has always bothered me a bit. Teenagers are not young adults. Young adults are college students; hence, the adult. High school kids that I had working for me in the public library tenth grade and upward read adult books not YA. When I was in HS, during the summer months I also read adult books.
