I'm joining this topic late, so forgive me if someone has already said this, but... I cannot believe the amount of acid being spewed forth, particularly on the head of Disney. Throughout movie history, directors have taken great liberty with novels. Can anyone name a single movie which is 100% accurate to the letter of the book it was based upon? I agree that in certain cases, we should be upset- namely when looking at the likes of Pocohontas in which they did not change a book but changed HISTORY to fit a cute, musical mold. But Disney is not solely responsible for destroying things. Are we forgetting the movies of Pride and Prejudice? Wuthering Heights? Gone With the Wind? The Wizard of Oz? The basic reality is that for various reasons, changes are made. We don't have to like them or agree with them (I myself am still awaiting the movie when someone FINALLY puts Peeves in any of the Harry Potters). I believe it is our job as librarians and educators to try to put the books into hands and remind our readers that "the book is SO much better - trust me."
