I'm curious about what everyone thinks about updated covers for classic books. For example, I saw the new cover for "My Friend Flicka" at the Pet store yesterday, and they've turned Flicka from a chestnut color to jet black. Other updates:
The Ramona series by Beverly Cleary Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys get regular updates on cover and inside illustrations Bobsey Twins Encyclopedia Brown
Do these updates help or harm the story?
(By the way, in the movie re-make of "My Friend Flicka" -- just called
"Flicka", the main character has gone from being a boy ("Ken") to a girl
("Katie"). Do these kinds of changes betray the original or broaden the audience appeal?
Jim Elliott etc.

Kevin Henkes brought out the board books with Lilly and friends, starting with _Sheila Rae's Peppermint Stick_. It's nice to have these very short stories for babies and toddlers. Are there other hardcover-to-board book adaptations that others have particularly liked?
