Come to think of it, "dumbing down" is not really so new. There was an "Alice in Wonderland" quite close to the release of Alice that was in words of one (1) syllable, True, it was shorter than "Alice"-- maybe caused by drinking something or eating something. I believe there is a Dover facsimile of same.
