I am a constant reader of "Pinocchio" in Italian and various English language versions. Sometimes new illustrations play in tune with the text. However, too often the name of a translator is not supplied and too often the tale is abridged. As for the Disney film of many years ago, the boy-puppet is just "too cute" and this goes against the spirit of he classic, as does the abridgment. Pinocchio is one of the Italian classics for children but it is in the domain which means anyone who want to do anything can--and do.

Ditto for "Alice" and "Looking Glass."
