Hi Shawn--As a native New Englander, the Witch of Blackbird Pond was always one of my favorite summer books too...

While it isn't specifically about summer, I've read The Witch of Blackbird Pond nearly every August since the 6th grade. As a child, this book helped me prepare for the Wisconsin wintry days that undoubtedly were just around the corner when school started each fall. I loved Kit's descriptions of

tropical Barbados, but I felt more at home in the New England setting that made me long for snow during the dog days of summer. Now, when I pick up this book every August as an adult, I reconnect with a younger Self - a girl who had endless summer afternoons to read historical fiction in front of circulating fans, but who was ready for school to begin and definitely hopeful for snow.
