I have a number of favorite books that really speak of "summer" to me. Elizabeth Enright was a master at that, and my very favorite of hers is AND THEN THERE WERE FIVE. If ever a perfect summer for children was described, it was done in that book.
And along with Sharon Creech's WALK TWO MOONS, also ABSOLUTELY NORMAL CHAOS. I also adore Maud H. Lovelace's EMILY OF DEEP VALLEY and CARNEY'S HOUSE PARTY for summer.
I think I need to reread...
