Our apologies for the delay in starting our discussion for the second half of June.

We move now from the subject of art and artists in literature for children and teens to discussion of books created by members of a family whose own artistry embraces both images and words: The Pinkneys.

>From the graceful watercolor images of Jerry Pinkney, to the energetic
style of Brian Pinkney who uses scratchboard and other techniques, to the vivid photographs of Myles, the Pinkney family has created an extraordinary visual legacy in the field of children's and young adult literature. But there are words, too, from Brian Pinkney's original stories to the books written by Gloria Jean, Andrea Davis, and Sandra--books that inform and affirm by exploring the lives of African Americans--famous names and everyday people--in history and today.

And there are awards and accolades--many, many of them.

We want to hear about your thoughts on books written and/or illustrated by the Pinkneys, and your experiences sharing them with children.

Megan
