I would also add another book by Peter Reynolds to this list: Ish. The main character is concerned that his pictures do not look realistic until his sister points out that while his drawing may not look exactly like a boat, for example, it does look boat-ish. The last line is the best...

I really enjoy The Dot by Peter Reynolds. He is an artist and writes a whole series of these self-esteem themed books. Many have also been animated (by him) and are available from Weston Woods.
