A very solid book to add to any art and or literature discussion is Tonya Bolden's Wake Up Our Sols - a Celebration of Black american AArtists. Abrams, 2004
With words and illustrations this gifted research writer has written for young people a hsitory of African American art and artists over three centuries.
Included are scultors, painters, from Romare Bearden to Faith Ringgold,, photogapher Gordon Parks, Jacob Lawrence and all in between. A jewel for many eyes to observe regardless of one's ethnicity
