[CCBC-Net] Favorites/Life-changing?

The mention of comic books reminds me of a woman I used to work with here at the Library. She was Czech born, and worked as an au pair. When she worked in France, she didn't speak French but got all the Tintin books and taught herself French by reading Tintin. Then later she used the same method to improve her English.

I haven't managed to get caught up with all the emails on this topic but I thought I'd better chime in before it is too late!I grew up with many comic books and books but the one author that I remember well that hasn't been mentioned is Lois Lensky. From the Smalls to her children from all walks of life in different parts of our country (Strawberry Girl, to name just one) really opened my eyes to a wider world out there. I loved her illustrations!
