[CCBC-Net] [CCBC Net] - What books changed your life?

This has been a great topic! Like all of you, I read constantly when I was younger (still do!) and remember many of the books I read with complete details. But more than a single book influencing my life, at least until I was in junior high or high school, I think what really had an impact on me was the Scholastic Book Club. I eagerly looked forward to the book club deliveries, and still remember the anticipation, smell, and feel of "my" books. I think I ordered almost every biography of a woman who was a "first" - Elizabeth Blackwell, Nellie Bly, Marie Curie, Jane Adams, Amelia Earhart - and more than likely would not have read about them any other way since I always made a beeline for the fiction section at my public library. A wonderful way to own books in the days before many children's books could be found in bookstores.

I'm glad that The Family That Nobody Wanted has been mentioned. I went to school with one of the many Doss children, but had no idea a book was written about the family until years later. A new edition was published in 2001.
