I'm so glad you mentioned THE BOOK OF THREE, Arthur. I think about it often. But I didn't find it until about 7 years ago, long after any formal education and long after the "end" of childhood, if-you-like. As it did for you, it opened the door to fantasy for me (that I'd shunned when younger). I love the first line and straight on through. And it still makes me smile when I think of it -- and how much I laughed and thought what a gentle magician Lloyd Alexander is. For a long while it's been missing from it's place next to the rest of the the Chronicles of Prydain series collected on my bookshelf; I finally ordered a copy from an English-language bookshop here in Paris last week. I can't wait to read it again.
