[CCBC-Net] What Book Has Changed Your Life?

I can?t say that a specific book has changed my life, but the many books that my parents read to me as a child have obviously affected me. My mom and dad would take turns reading to us kids. I remember them reading Robinson Crusoe and younger books like Witches by Roald Dahl to my sister and I. My parents really liked picture books with detailed illustrations such as the ones by Chris Van Allsburg. Any book that my parents enthusiastically read to me over and over again is a book I still cherish today. I am so glad my mother would sit down with my sisters and I and read to us even when I was of reading age. I hated to read when I was little so if she didn?t read to me I would have missed out!

Some books that I have on my bookshelves from my childhood include Wait and See, In the Night Kitchen, The Zephyr, One Monster After Another, The Sailor Dog, and Outside Over There. I also remember a picture book about The Littles that illustrated all of the different places the little people would live and what things they?d use in their homes (such as a matchbox for a bed, etc.) I would run outside and look for The Littles but I never found them. I was hoping they lived in or near my home but I guess not.

I don?t recall there being too many picture books in the early 80s with funky cartoon illustrations seen in books like the ones I create today. Sometimes I wonder if I would have liked my own books since I wasn?t exposed to anything quite like them growing up
  but I sure hope so!
