Thank you for this invitation back to childhood - which for some of us is a longer journey than for others. I loved The Bobbsey Twins, Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch and yes, Nancy Drew books. In defense of Nancy Drew, I saw her as a strong woman with great friends - something to aspire to when you're 9 or 10 years old. Middle school through high school I loved The Arabian Nights and Canterbury Tales for their imagery and wonderful stories. Two books from young adulthood were truly eye-opening and life-changing - Native Son and Trinity.
Thank you for this interesting question. It has been a pleasure to read the thought-provoking answers people have written.
