Some of our sophisticated 3rd-5th grade readers, particularly boys, have enjoyed the Measle and the Wrathmonk (Ian Ogilvy) series and also the Stink Files, Dossiers 1-3 with main character cat James Edward Bristlefur
(Jennifer Holm and Jonathan Hamel). There has also been some interest in the Edgar and Ellen series with Rare Beasts and Tourist Trap (Charles Ogden). Even though children are interested in Harry Potter and able to read the words, they may not be emotionally prepared for death, child abuse, and abstract thought presented in the series.
