I think I have a love/hate relationship with fantasy. I adore some of it, but get tired of names that sound as if they come from an old British herbal. I like the idea some are born to greatness, but I get tired of So-and-So, "the only being who can save the world" (and I've created some of those so-and-sos myself, oy vay!).

So, I've avoided reading some of the singles and triples out there, but dug into others. My absolute latest favorite is the Bartimaeus trilogy. As a friend of mine said, "I'm a sucker for an unreliable narrator." Plus the writing is witty, the characters memorable, and the reworking of British history (all the PMs are magicians, ha!) terrific. My husband's now reading the series and enjoying it, but tells me I must read JONATHAN STRANGE AND MR. NORELL. That'll be some of my summer reading.
