I?d like to invite everyone attending ALA to a unique program, The Scoop on Magazines for Kids: Who?s Behind and What?s Inside the Covers, and Why Librarians Should be Paying Attention, on Saturday morning at the Convention Center. I?ll moderate a panel consisting of two magazine publisher/editors, writer Robert San Souci, and critic/historian Leonard Marcus. Handouts will include an updated annotated survey of magazines for children (originally published in School Library Journal in 2004) and sample copies of many magazines.
The field is extremely focused and dynamic, and offers unique opportunities for youth librarians. I hope you?ll come to the program to learn more and to contribute your own experiences of using magazines with kids.
