I am new to this mailing and new to the profession, I was just promoted to library trainee. About a month ago I assisted my boss in putting together a readers advisory list for the picture book plus collection, picture books with more text and more involved themes. This collection doesns't circulate as much as it should. Realizing that they could be wonderful resources for teachers, we have begun to present this list in the school district. This collection is not limited to, but includes many books on slavery, the underground railroad, the effect of the bomb on the Japanese, and of course the Holocaust. There was one book impaticular that really moved me. It is called Erika's Story,by Zee Vander. It is the true story of a woman whose mother was on a train heading for a Nazi death camp. She took the chance of throwing her daughter out of the train, in hopes of saving her life. She did just that. It is an emotional book that will begin to set the tone of the sacrifices that
were made, and the scope of this tragic event in history. If anyone could read this with out crying, let me know.
