I re(re-re)read Virginia Euwer Wolff's The Mozart Season tonight. Allegra's struggle with edging nearer to Mozart had stuck with me, but I had forgotten the beauty of the passage when Allegra gives voice to the Jewish goose girl her great-grandmother, and her namesake, was before the Holocaust. So I'd like to offer this too as a suggestion for the list; its treatment of the Holocaust is very subtle, but intimate and true, as is her marriage of Jew and Gentile within Allegra's spirit.
